Ahh... Midsemester break

Yes, that is right, it is time for a break from school. How long do we have off you may ask?

One day. Oh yeah. Big spenders here at vet school, a WHOLE day off. At least it is a Monday though, because I hate Mondays most out of the seven days of the week. And not just because its the first day of the school or most people's work week, but instead, because I'm not a huge fan of the way "Monday" sounds. Also, from Office Space, because it is just outright PAINFUL to hear someone say "aww... does somebody have a case of the Mondays???" Yeah, that's just not right.

On to the fun stuff though.

This weekend there will be studying (unfortunately), sleeping, drinking (safely, of course), eating junk food, and lounging on the beach. And some museum in Nevis about Horatio Nelson. Ask Matt, I don't know anything about the dude except what I remember him telling me. Matt say's he's a bad ass because he defeated a ton of Spaniards with only a few boats. Something like that. We're actually staying the night on Nevis at the Nisbet Plantation Inn, which I am VERY excited about. They give an absolutely amazing rate to students/locals, so we get to stay at this amazing 4 star hotel for practically nothing. I'm quite excited for this mini-vacation.

I sort of hate in-text links, but they're useful sometimes. Please forgive me, if you too, despise them.

Forbs... sigh. I am still bitter. Stupid goats. Our class wants to make a t-shirt in honor of that test question. I am not participating in this celebration of ridiculous exam questions. BAH!

I have no pictures to share... but I should have some from the trip to Nevis this weekend, so look for those to come in a few days... or next week.

Alright, off to volleyball, go Pudendals!

Is it April yet?

This term has been horribly boring. Must keep going.... (please read that in an awfully pained voice inside your head, it'll make it much more dramatic)

Luckily, there have been some activities to distract me from the boring-ness (not a word, I know, but deal) that is immunology and parasitology (my two least favorite classes). Which by the way, I did not see that coming Parasitology. Thank you for blindsiding me with how painful you have become. Thanks, really, I appreciate that, a lot.

Anyway....

I went on another night catamaran trip this Friday! It was a gorgeous evening, although I was FREEEEEZING on the way home. Note to self: bring a jacket for the ride back next time. Wind + wet clothes + no sun = brrrrrrrr (yes, even in the Caribbean)

This is a picture my friend took of Matt and I just after boarding. It was his 1st cat trip, which he seemed to enjoy quite a bit.

It was a GORGEOUS evening.
I also played volleyball that evening before the cat trip. We won. Of course... mwahahahaha. We played my friend Megan's team, and came close to losing the 1st game, but then got it together in time to completely obliterate them. Sorry, Megan.

Hum. I guess that is about it. My life really isn't so exciting. Except for the beaches, and the catamaran trips, and living on an island. Besides all that, it really isn't all that thrilling.

Midterms Round 2 start this week. Must do better....

Oh, I baked this morning. Blueberry muffins from a box. Delicious none the less. Please enjoy... via a picture. Baking in an un-airconditioned house is not recommended by the way. It was hot in our house before I started baking, and now it is just plain uncomfortable. Sigh.

Nom nom nom
My Dad sent me another adorable picture of Tanzi cuddling with my Mom, so I figured I would post one of her too, because, well, I can. :)

On to physio... and parasit... and anatomy... and maybe, if I'm feeling quite productive a little immuno.

Montserrat

This is a website for the nearby volcanic island that keeps spewing ash on us, in case you wanted to see how awesome ash can be.

Montserrat Volcano Observatory

No wonder we have to clean our table nearly daily, and floors almost as often.

And....

Tanzi's Valentine :)

Yup, that's my bed at home that she is keeping warm for me :)

Oh, Immunology

How I loathe thee.

My exam is on Wednesday, I think I'll write about my last week instead.

Karin (Matt's Mom for those who don't know) came to visit us this past week! Unfortunately I did not get to spend a lot of time with her, but she got to do lots of really cool schtuff during the week anyway. I'll post some pictures from their adventures a little later.

There are a bunch of sheep and goats right across the road from our house now. They're super cute. Lots of week-old or younger lambs and kids running around being pretty darn cute.

Wow, I am very uncreative these days. That's all I've got for now. Pretty lame, I know.

My dad sent me the cutest valentine "from Tanzi". It's pretty adorable. Maybe I'll post it.

Neglect

Dear Blog,

I have been neglecting you. Please don't hate me.

Ok, I'd understand if you hate me for a little bit, but hopefully it won't last.

I'll post soon, with pictures, hopefully.

Yours truly,
 Laura

P.S. TWO stray dogs showed up at our house in the last 3 days and didn't want to leave. TWO. Its almost as if they could smell the vet school on us....

Only in St. Kitts...

Otherwise known as "OISK"

A facebook group started just over a week ago by one of my classmates now has over 700 members. For those of you who don't facebook, that is a REALLY quick rate of growth for a new group.

Here are a few examples of an OISK from my life today...

- Only in St. Kitts, do you get a sunburn while studying for your midterm from the hours of 9am to 11am.

- Only in St. Kitts do you still continue with parasitology lab in the dark because the power went off. Yes, we need power for our microscopes, yes we used the flashlight on our cell phones for light, no we did not get to leave early.

- Only in St. Kitts, when you study parasitology, are you also required to know which parasites are currently endemic in humans where you live (these would not be endemic back at home).

Now, here are a few excerpts from the group page (these are not my personal experiences, but that does not mean I haven't lived them!)

"oisk where you drive down the main road following a car and then see him go into reverse to talk to his friend driving in the opposite lane.."

"OISK is the concept of two-lane roundabouts too much to comprehend"

"OISK, Do you see Monkeys walking thru Downtown, like little People."

"OISK do you spend thousands of dollars on a vehicle that would have been scrapped long ago in the US."

"only in St. Kitts, does a student's car fall over the gravel parking lot at school into the caribbean ocean, and starts (and runs functionally) after being recovered...."

"Only in St. Kitts can your car catch on fire, you put it out with pool water, continue driving it, and consider it a good vehicle day"

"Only in St Kitts can you get a 'private room' in the local hospital that has an open door leading to the dirt yard where chickens walk in and out freely."

"Only in St. Kitts they eat the protected fish from the aquarium."

"Only in St. Kitts can you have your neighbor tie a goat to his childs swing set and leave it overnight. During the night all you hear is "clink clink naaaaa." "

"Only in St. Kitts will the political speaker-box car still be driving around the neighborhoods two days after the election...."

"Only in St. Kitts can the electric department tell you that you may not have your deposit back because they still have to make the budget for this year"

"Only in St. Kitts do you have to dodge goats/cows/ assorted wildlife roaming free while on your way to class."

And, just to remind you that it does rock here still...
